Plus we got some exciting news during our signing, our land registration is actually December this year, with building due to commence Feb 17th 2017, which means we will be in our house Nov/Dec 2016
We have recieved through our first contract variation to sign, including a downlight package, upgraded applicances, flyscreens etc and had a few items removed and credited back to us as we plan to do a few things ourselves after handover
From here we were advised we will receive a phone call to book in our internal selections, tile appointment and electrical appointment within the next few months. Everywhere I look people are advising that it is better to be over-prepared for these appointments to avoid forgetting items or feeling too rushed, so I've started to finalise our selections so that we know exactly what we are after.
I went to Bunnings as well as a paint shop in penrith called Merilux Paint and Paper to try get sample cards of the internal colours available to us. It turns out these colours are part of Taubmans New Homes Range and as such only our builder can supply us with the colour cards, meaning that we would have to wait until the day of our colour selections appointment to see what these colours actually look like. Instead, I decided to do a bit of research which led me to a fantastic blog:
This wonderful blogger posted a list of the taubmans new home colours they were considering and several images of completed rooms in those colours. Lucky for me, we have similar taste, so the blog post was super helpful, and enabled me to narrow my choices. I decided I liked Marble Mist, Stonebridge and Gemini Silver. I decided to go back to bunnings and get some sample paint pots ($5 each) of each colour so I could see what it would look like in real life. - while I was there I decided to get a sample pot of Taubmans Tenacity (our moroka and cladding colour) as this was another one that neither store could show me a sample of and I had trouble finding anything online.
After seeing Tenacity in person I am thrilled - I was worried from the taubmans website that it was going to be too beige, however in the photo above you can see the colour monument next to it (our garage door, fascia, gutter and downpipe colour) and I think they go together really well, so I'm really happy with that.
I'm torn with the internal colours though. After seeing the three dried and finished, I can definitely rule out marble mist, way too beige for my liking. I love my kitchen colour choices with gemini silver, but am undecided about stonebridge. The only thing holding me back is that I found another fabulous blog where they had similar kitchen and bathroom colours to us, and they used stonebridge and it looks amazing...
Our kitchen colours will also be white and cinder (although our flooring will be a light grey tile), and our bathroom will be the exact same floor tiles as theirs (Greta Charcoal 300 x 300) with white wall tiles and similar colours for the vanity. So at least with stonebridge I know it will look good. But, our house is quite small, and I want lighter colours to try open up the spaces a bit...
Here are the colours we have decided on so far:
Kitchen Bench: 40mm Caesarstone Pure White
Kitchen doors: Polytec Ultra White Gloss Createc
Kitchen island back panel and pantry doors along the RHS of the kitchen: Polytec Cinder Gloss
Floor tile: EuroTile Stellar Grey 450 x 450
Oh well, that's it for now, will keep you posted once we have made a few more decisions
